Results of the Steering Board elections, including balancing criteria

Following the election results at CoARA’s General Assembly on December 9th, 2024, we are pleased to share the new composition of the CoARA Steering Board/

According to CoARA’s voting mechanism, the election was organised as follows:

  • Step 1: The Chair was elected first, based on the total number of votes received, independent of the other balancing criteria.
  • Step 2: Candidates running for the SB were ranked in descending order based on the total number of votes received.
  • Step 3. Starting from the top of the ranked list, 7 candidates were pre-selected (see column B).

Geographical balancing: the 7 pre-selected candidates did not meet the criteria for geographical balancing. A second candidate from Region A was selected. As a result, the candidate with the least amount of votes from region B was excluded from the initial list of selected candidates.

Type of organisation balancing: The ranking resulting from geographical balancing did not include a representative from “Public or private research funding organisations and their associations”. To balance this, the candidate from this organisation type haviing received the most votes was selected. As a result, the candidate with the least votes from other organisation types and from region B was excluded from the list of selected candidates.

Gender balancing: no change in the ranking was necessary according to this criterion.
